Owner and Co-Founder of IncaFé Organic Coffee
Hi, I’m Carmen. My husband Joop and I moved to New Plymouth 20 years ago, originally with the oil industry, however we decided to stay in NZ to start our own business, IncaFé. In November 2006 we set up our current factory in the Waiwhakaiho area, roasting exclusively organic and fairtrade coffee. We have from day one, remained committed to suppling excellent coffee while running a sustainable business. We source our coffee straight from the growers, and pay above fairtrade prices. IncaFé is founded on organic believes and we became carboNZero certified in 2008, the first coffee roastery to be certified in NZ. We measure our carbon emissions, and this certification allows us to minimise our carbon footprint and to contribute to the reforestation of native forests in NZ. Also, in 2008 we were one of the first in NZ to introduce biodegradable takeaway cups. In 2013 we were awarded the overall Supreme Award at the NZ Coffee Awards. This year we have co-developed the 4evercup, a reusable double wall stainless steel cup as an option to avoid single use takeaway cups. Also this year, we are rolling out 100% compostable packaging, a project we have been working on for the past 6 years.
For the land to produce best we should respect the hands that care for it. That’s why we support our farmers, visit their operations and assist with production methods. We work with our clients by providing great coffee and reliable equipment at very reasonable prices complemented with efficient service. Together we want to create a sustainable business partnership from bush to cup.
